English CPD

The Roade English Hub is based at Roade Primary School in Northampton and supports and helps develop phonics and early reading in other schools by:

  • Providing showcase events for up to 170 participants from up to 85 schools.
  • Assessing and offering feedback on the action plans of 85 schools, including assessing requests for resources.
  • Providing a full audit using the audit framework provided by the Department to at least 15 schools and up to 40 schools. Funding per audit allows for three days of hub teacher time for each audit, including preparation, a full day in the supported school, and time to return to the school for follow-up.

Subject Knowledge for Teaching Mathematics (SKTM) for TAs

This course will enable TAs to support and/or deliver mathematics in the classroom or in small intervention groups. This is a practical and engaging Work Group that delivers subject knowledge and associated pedagogy. This key aims of the course:

  • Skills and confidence of Intervention Assistants working with students will be improved
  • Knowledge of the pedagogy of maths teaching and ways of relating this to small group teaching
  • Understanding how children think and where their misconceptions stem from
  • A greater awareness of the three aims of the National Curriculum (fluency, reasoning and problem solving) and to understand how these aims relate specifically to the teaching of calculation and the development of pupils’ arithmetic proficiency
  • Understand the role that certain representations, models and manipulatives can play in the development of pupils’ understanding of number and calculation particularly place value and proficiency in the use of efficient standard algorithms for each of the four operations

•  Develop an understanding of the interplay between conceptual understanding and procedural fluency and to understand how each contribute to the achievement of mastery of the curriculum.

Bar Modelling

The course will include:

  • Introduction to the Bar Model, plus progression in its use across Key Stage 1 & 2
  • An explanation of the gap task, plus time to prepare, which will involve trialling use of the bar model with a group/class of children. Clarity will be provided regarding expected feedback: teaching strategies used and impact on pupil learning
  • Further input on developing use of the bar model – more complex types, deepening understanding through getting children to make connections, plus adopting a more investigative approach. Time to also be built in for participants to create the work group resource
  • Consideration of the wider school implementation of the use of Bar Modelling across the school

Consideration of appropriate monitoring for impact in order to sustain the implementation and development of a consistent approach to the use of Bar Modelling across school.

Maths CPD

The Enigma Maths Hub is based at Denbigh School in Milton Keynes and provides Professional Development for Mathematics Teachers across the region being part of a collaborative network of 35 Maths Hubs nationally.

The Hub supports Mathematics Teachers to actively continue to improve educational standards from Early Years Foundation Stage children through to Post 16 students. The Enigma Maths Hub region includes schools and colleges in Milton Keynes, Bedfordshire, Luton, Buckinghamshire and Northamptonshire.

BA (Hons) Primary and Early Years Education with QTS

The BA Hons in Primary Education with Qualified Teacher Status is a school-based, three-year undergraduate course leading to Qualified Teacher Status. This course allows you to specialise in age phases 3-7 or 5-11 years and is run in collaboration with Birmingham City University who will award your degree. It is a unique course, blending academic study with our ITE Core Team with the practical application of skills while you develop your teaching skills in classrooms in our extensive partnership of schools in the region.

PGCE with QTS (Primary and Early Years)

The Primary PGCE is a School-Based Initial Teacher Training route to Qualified Teacher Status, with a Post Graduate Certificate in Education. This course allows you to specialise in Early Years (3-7 years) or General Primary (5-11 years) and an enhance SEND route for those wishing to complete part of their training in a Special School is also available. We offer both SCITT and School Direct (salaried and tuition fee) routes. A Post Graduate Certificate in Education is also available through collaboration with our partners at Birmingham City University. Assessment Only Route to QTS (in National or International settings)

If you’re an experienced teacher with a degree and the relevant additional qualifications, you may be able to achieve qualified teacher status (QTS) without having to do any further training. Assessment Only (AO) allows you to demonstrate that you already meet all of the standards for QTS, by presenting a detailed portfolio of evidence. Your teaching will be assessed in a school by us, as an accredited and approved AO provider.
